I grew up in the real estate business. My mother being a seasoned agent, and growing up in a real estate environment, my mind immediately calculates all the pros and cons instinctively. I completed my B.A. in Political Science-Option: Law and Society, from California State University Northridge. Simultaneously, I also received my real estate salesperson license and began practicing real estate with Keller Williams Realty. After my graduation, I became a domestic violence advocate and completed my forty-hour domestic violence training to become certified. Upon completing the training, I volunteered hours and worked alongside the family attorney to help victims in need of legal services. After volunteering my time at the YWCA whilst working as a realtor, I chose to continue my education and received my M.A. in Teaching from University of Southern California. I completed my student teaching in the Pasadena Unified School District. During my student teaching and field experience, I worked with students at the elementary school levels. This included providing individual, small group and whole class instruction to students with emotional/behavioral issues, English Language Learners, Advanced Learners, and learners with Individualized Education Programs. I value individuality, and strive to meet the needs of each student. To accomplish this, I use a variety of hands-on activities, student centered instruction, and different teaching strategies to accommodate diverse learning styles. I also recognize the importance of trust, and successfully established relationships with students that resulted in a safe and comfortable, yet challenging, learning environment. Similar to some of the students in my student teaching class, the students that I tutored also struggled academically. I responded to their learning needs by first evaluating and addressing their motivation and self-confidence levels. After implementing activities that increased their motivation, their grades and their performance in school improved as well. Some of the students even began to pursue extra-curricular activities and the family was informed by the school that the student is now eligible to participate in commencement and move on to middle school. With the skills I have obtained throughout different spectrums in society, I am confident that I have the knowledge, experience and professionalism to ensure that all your real estate needs are addressed! ~Christina Melkonian -Member of the Women’s Council of Realtors -YWCA: Eliminating Racism, Empowering Women -Not For Sale Campaign: Coalition to End Human Trafficking
